Disband HFI petition passes 250 signatures in 2 weeks

Dear Friends,

The Disband HFI petition has just past its first milestone – more than 250 signatures (so far…!!):

The petition has just over six weeks more to run, but in order to make a big IMPRESSION we need to let more people know about the petition and help anyone having difficulty. We’d like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who has already signed. We’d also like to thank everyone who has sent us ideas, comments and in general very positive feedback – this petition belongs to all who sign it – we’re counting on your help and support. A little energy on everyone’s part could make a noise the Islington couldn’t ignore.

 To HELP Volunteers:

The Disband HFI website is now updated with downloadable paper petition forms, a poster as well as smaller flyers – all available from the “YOU CAN HELP” button on the left had side – www.disbandhfi.org.uk We would be very grateful if you could encourage other Islington residents and citizens to support the petition initiative – Write and forward emails to others who lives / works / studies in Islington. Signing the petition is not limited to one person per household (though each email address needs to be unique for verification purposes)!

Do you have access to a printer?

This initiative is entirely unfunded and depends on supporters to promote the petition with others in the Borough, perhaps you could display a poster, share flyers or complete paper petition forms (for anyone who does not have access to an email address). More info www.disbandhfi.org.uk

Tell your friends and anyone else who might be interested

Potter boycotts SCITA after being Quangoed

Dr Brian Potter,  boycotts  Islington council’s questionnaire and all subsequent actions relating to LBI’s So Called “Independent Tenants Adviser” (SCITA) process which will advise on the future of council housing in Islington in a way that Islington councillors and HFI can control, because the process is more of the usual undemocratic LBI gerrymandered political stitch up business. Dr Potter explains what it feels like to be ‘quangoed’, in his letter to “Inside Housing” here.

Disband HFI petition

Disband HFI petition – Bring council services inhouse – Make them more cost effective.

Dr Brian Potter (ILA chair) has signed the below petition From: thomas.cooper@tchi.org.uk and suggests that every one else does.

Dear fellow Islington residents,

As you are most likely aware, several resident representatives have been calling for a ballot on the continuation (or, rather not) of HFI, but despite pre-election pledges to consult with ALL residents and to “look at bringing housing back in-house” these calls have been ignored. Instead, Islington Council is spending £30,000 on a supposed review of the services currently managed by HFI.   I know that I am not the only one who has good reason to believe that this is an expensive gesture to give the impression of listening to residents’ views, whilst having no intention or indeed willingness to disband HFI and be accountable for our housing services. Whilst some have expressed the view that services would not be any better under the Council, we can be quite sure that they would be more cost effective and Councillors whether effective or not are at least accessible via their surgeries and, via the ballot box, accountable.

Please sign the petition linked below and forward the link to other Islington residents whom you think might be interested and supportive. If you have any comments or observations that could be fed into the debate, please do let me know. This may not get us what we want, but will at least make our views known.

Dear Islington Leaseholders

Make your voices heard; demand that all residents of Islington’s PFI contracts (PFI1 and PFI2) are included in the selection of the “Independent Tenant Adviser”. Register your complaint by email to both the Islington Tribune and Gazette and demand that your Councilors’ and MP’s, intercede with the council straight away to ensure your voice is not ignored.
